Paraffin Sections: Pregnancy-staged placenta and mammary glands are harvested from pregnant animals, fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin or cold 4% paraformaldehyde in PBS (upon the client request) for 16-24 hr, washed,  dehydrated in serial ethanol solutions, cleaned with xyelene, and embedded in paraffin. Tissues are cut at a thickness of 5-7 microns and sections are mounted on slides treated for adherence.  Each slide contains 2-4 sections. Slides are shipped at room temperature in tightly closed slide boxes or slide mailers.

Frozen Sections: Pregnancy-staged placenta and mammary glands are freshly harvested and snapped frozen in O.C.T. medium for cryosectioning. Frozen tissues are cut at a thickness of 7-10 microns and sections are mounted on slides treated for adherence.  Each slide contains 2 sections. Slides are shipped on dry ice in tightly closed slide boxes or slide mailers.

Applications: Paraffin and frozen tissue sections are prepared in RNase-, DNase-, and protease-free environment and are ideal for cellular localization of specific protein by immunohistochemistry and mRNA by in situ hybridization.
