Rat
and Mouse Brain, Paraffin and Frozen Sections
| Zyagen offers the largest selection of paraffin and frozen sections of rat
and mouse brain in coronal, sagittal, and horizontal orientation. Sections are
mounted on slides treated for adhesion. We also offers floating thick brain
sections shipped in culture plate. All brain sections are freshly made and
are ideal for immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization. |

Coronal. Sagittal, and Horizontal
Paraffin Sections:
Brains are carefully removed from the skulls, fixed for
16-24
hr in 10% neutral buffered formalin or 4% paraformeldehyde (upon the client
request), and embedded in paraffin. Paraffin blocks are sectioned at a thickness
of 5-7 microns in coronal , sagittal, or horizontal orientation, and
mounted on slides treated for adherence. Each slide contains 2-4 sections.
Paraffin sections are shipped at room temperature in tightly closed slide boxes
or slide mailers.
Coronal. Sagittal, and Horizontal Frozen Sections: Brains are snapped
frozen in O.C.T. medium and sectioned at a thickness of 7-10 microns in coronal,
sagittal, or horizontal orientation, and mounted on slides treated for
adherence. Each slide contains 2 sections. Frozen sections are shipped in
tightly closed slide boxes or slide mailers on dry ice. Fixed and cryoprotected
in sucrose rat and mouse brain sections are also available upon request.
Coronal. Sagittal, and Horizontal Floating Frozen Sections.
The floating sections are specifically made for Floating Immunostaining in
culture dishs. Brains are fixed O/N in 10% buffered formalin, cryoprotected
for 24-36hr, snapped frozen in O.C.T. medium, and sectioned at a thickness
of 30 microns in coronal, sagittal, or horizontal orientation. The frozen thick
sections are shipped in 6- or 12--well culture plates (one section per each well) on dry
ice. Upon arrival, keep culture plates at -80oC and never allow them to warm-up
to the room temperature (sections will attach to the culture plates at RT).
Before use, place culture plate on dry ice and gently add 2 ml PBS to each well
to allow sections floating in the buffer. Remove plate from dry ice and follow
your protocol of immunostaining at room temperature. Restore the unused
sections in the culture plates at -80oC. Sections are good for several months
from the date of shipping if stored properly.
Floating brain sections from paraformeldehyde- or buffered
formalin-perifused animals in different thickness and orientations are also
available upon request. Contact us for more information.
Rat and mouse strain: Brain tissue sections are
routinely prepared from
Sprague Dawley rats and CD1 mice. Contact us for the
availability of brain tissue sections of other strains.
Applications: Paraffin and frozen brain tissue
sections are prepared in RNase-, DNase-, and protease-free environment and are
ideal for immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization.
Custom Research Services: If you
are interested in paraffin or frozen brain sections of any rat or mouse strain
(inbred, outbred, mutant, hybrid, transgenic) in any orientation, our scientists
can make it for you. We can also process brain sections in your specifications
to fit your need (fixation, section thickness, slide coating, ...etc)
